Obituary for Barbara Patterson Hogg
Duncan: Barbara Patterson Hogg, 67, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 in Duncan.
Barbara Patterson Hogg (1955-2023) was born in Hamilton, Scotland to James and Sarah Hogg. Soon
after she was born, her parents moved to New York, where Barbara was raised. In school, she studied
nursing and specialized in caring for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia. She moved to California in
1980 and where she had her 3 children, Sara, Alex, and Stewart.
Throughout Barbara’s career, she continued to help patients with memory loss. In 2000, she began her
own company, Bide-a-Bode, which provided home-based companionship to people with Alzheimer’s
and dementia. Her daughter, Alexandria, helped her run her business. Together, they brought care and
compassion to hundreds of families.
Barbara was a member of the Alano Club of Garden Grove, a sober community that helped people on
their journeys through addiction recovery. While at the Alano Club, she enjoyed faith, fun, friendships,
and a whole lot of laughter. Barbara also participated in her local Long Beach Elk’s Club and had a
passion for rescuing animals.
Barbara loved to shop, drive beautiful cars, and listen to classic rock music. At home, she could always
be found with a good cup of coffee, a sweet treat, and her pets at her side. She had a shining
personality, loved fiercely, and considered all her friends to be family.
On Friday, January 6 th , Barbara was welcomed into heaven by her mother Sadie, her father Jim, her son
Stewart, and a parade of happy pets.
Barbara’s ashes will be transported home to Southern California where she will be laid to rest with her
son. Details regarding her memorial service will be forthcoming. Her family expresses their deepest
gratitude for all the kindness and love they have received.
