Marlow: Cherie Lou Callaway peacefully passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 in Duncan. She was 91.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Joe Ligon officiating with burial to follow at the Marlow Cemetery. Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Service has been entrusted with her services.

Cherie was born Saturday, November 6, 1926 in Oklahoma City, to Walter M. and Elsie Ellen (Snook) Acord She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated with the Classen High School class of 1944. She met Harry Wayne Callaway at Falls Creek Baptist Camp when they were both teenagers. Later they reconnected, Harry wooed her under the watchful eye of her Daddy, and due to the helpful intervention of her mother, the two were married on August 30, 1947 in Oklahoma City. They were married for 63 years until his passing on November 13, 2010. She moved to Marlow with Harry in 1949. Cherie was a social person who loved to entertain guests of all kinds, and has been described as a perfect hostess. She had hosted numerous Christmas, Sunday School and birthday parties, as well as various other gatherings of her family and friends. Cherie was a giving, caring person who loved to help others. She was an avid Bible student, and took her walk with the Lord very seriously. She taught Sunday School classes for 65 years, and was always willing to share the Word. Her stewardship was not limited to just her family and church; she also gave back to her community. She was a 55 plus year member of the Gamma Phi Chapter of the E.S.A. service sorority and a long time, active member of the Marlow Public Library Board. An accomplished artist, Cherie taught oil painting in Marlow, Duncan and Rush Springs and enjoyed china painting as well. She loved to camp with her family and friends and enjoyed traveling to various places, especially Colorado. She was very competitive person and was a challenge when playing the games of Sequence and dominoes. She loved her family with all of her heart and cherished the time spent together. Cherie was a 70-year member of the First Baptist Church of Marlow. She was loved by so many and will long be remembered.

Survivors include, daughter, Lou Ann Callaway of Marlow, OK, daughter, Terie Greaves and husband Chris of Oklahoma City, OK, son, Paul Alan Callaway and wife Anita of Wichita, KS 5 Grandchildren and10 Great Grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, William Walter Acord and her granddaughter, Claire L. Templeton.


Pallbearers will be: Terry Brown, Rick Lang, John Holland, Gene Cobb, Ken Layne, and Danny Glover.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: E.J. Crow, D.B. Green, Melvin Kiser and Homer Cobb.

Memorial Donations in Cherie's honor may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Garland Smith Public Library.
