Obituary for Cubie Lee Sparks

Cubie Lee Sparks, 93, of Marlow, OK was surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 28, 2019
when she peacefully left to be with the Lord. Cubie was born on October 2, 1925 to Jewel
Williams and Jessie Lee Rogers in Alex, OK. She married the love of her life of 74 years, C.L.
“Tommy” Sparks on September 14, 1942 in Bowie, TX. Cubie will be lovingly remembered by
her three children, Tommy D.Sparks (Michelle) of Sunnyvale, TX, Tressia Staton (Ernie) of
Marlow, OK, and Cris L. Sparks (Tammy) of Bray, OK. She will also be forever remembered by
her grandchildren, Cristi Kinnamon, Brittany Parrish, Dylan Sparks, and Thomas Sparks, as well
as her four great grandchildren, Janae Jones, Jennifer Palmer, Tiffany Palmer, and Casey
Kinnamon, one great great grandchild, Julius Gene Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cubie was preceded in death by her parents, Jewell and Jessie Williams, brothers, Donald and
Jewel “Dolphus” Williams, husband, C.L. “Tommy” Sparks, and grandchildren Tammy Sue and
James Robert Palmer.
Cubie was a high school graduate, and later continued her education at LaGene Cosmotology
School. Cubie was a well respected hairdresser in Marlow for over 50 years, so when she
wasn’t spending time in her “Beauty Shop”, Cubie truly enjoyed fishing, sewing, tatting, painting
both canvas and china. Roses and flowers were especially her favorite to paint. Cubie taught
many painting and tatting classes, and was also a member of the local 4-H. She also loved
tending to her vegetable gardens, beautiful roses, and large flower beds. Cubie was a member
of the Primitive Baptist Church in Duncan and later the Eastside Baptist Church in Marlow.
Cubie always dressed her best and almost always wore some shade of pink or lace. However,
her bright smile, warm hugs, and her always positive outlook on life were some of the most
captivating and contagious parts of Cubie. She never met a stranger and everyone that met her
felt important. Cubie always put her family first and would constantly go above and beyond to
make sure they were cared for and most importantly loved.
A celebration of Cubie’s life will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Marlow
Church of Christ, 301 N. Broadway St., Marlow, OK, with Lee Parish officiating.
