Obituary

Ella Ruth Fortner, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2020. She was the oldest of four children born to Joseph Newton Harber and Meddie (Baker) Harber. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Douglas Fortner, and her three brothers, J.N., Bob, and Bill Harber. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Guest of Duncan, Ruthann Postier and husband Russell of Edmond, and her son, Doug Fortner and wife Rhonda of Roswell, NM; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchildren, four nieces, two nephews, and some dear old friends.

Ella Ruth and Walt were raised in Seminole. They were married two years after Walt returned home from WWII following his liberation from a German prisoner of war camp. They lived in Norman, where Ella Ruth worked and Walt finished school. They moved to Ardmore before settling in Duncan around 1951.

Ella Ruth was a member of Westside/Chisholm Trail Church of Christ. She enjoyed Bible study and cooking for her church family. She was involved in various volunteer activities throughout the years. She liked to play bridge and travel. She never met a stray dog that she didn't like. Ellie loved to go fishing with Walt and friends, especially June and John Driver, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law. She enjoyed having big fish fries to share the catch with friends and family. She had a great sense of humor and was always quick to laugh. She gave her family her unwavering love and support and will be forever missed.

Her family wishes to thank the kind, compassionate, dedicated staff at Elk Crossing Nursing and Rehab in Duncan.

A family graveside will take place in Seminole, Oklahoma. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Chisholm Trail Compassion Center Food Closet, 810 N. 10th Duncan, Oklahoma.

I've know Ella Ruth since 1954. Walter and Ella moved their family behind my grandmothers house on the next street over. Love and prayers to Linda, Ruth Ann and Doug and their families. Loved that Lady.
