Obituary for Hunter Nunley Jr.

Central High: Hunter Nunley Jr., 97, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, in Central High.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the Marlow Cemetery, with Shawn Nunley officiating. Burial and all arrangements have been entrusted to Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, May 8, 3:00-8:30 PM.

Hunter was born Thursday, January 21, 1926, into the Denton Community in the midst of a snow storm, to Hunter and Florence (Johnson) Nunley. He lived in the Stephens County area all of his life. Hunter spent his years farming and ranching until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Twila Simpson, on July 15, 1948, in Lawton. Hunter and Twila celebrated more than 68 years of marriage together until she preceded him in death on October 13, 2016. He was always full of life and his biggest joy was aggravating his kids and grandkids. Hunter enjoyed water skiing, farming, roping, and visiting with his friends. He loved his family the most and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Hunter will be dearly missed.

Survivors include son, Hunter Lee Nunley of Central High, daughter, Loretta Burton of Purcell, 4 grandchildren, Jackie Dale Jr., Drieanna, Dusty, and Hunter Duke, 9 great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Roy Lott of Sterling, brother and sister-in-law, Roy Vern and Barbara Kay Simpson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Hunter was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Howard Nunley and Ray Lavern Nunley, sister, Gertrude Pearson, grandson, Brian Joe Barrett, and son-in-law, Terry Burton.

Pallbearers will be: Earnest Nunley, Ervin Nunley, Randy Pearson, Randy Farris, Kevin Simpson, Brett Simpson, Richard Simpson, Jackie Nunley, and Chad Simpson.
