Obituary for James Don Alexander

Marlow Resident and Long Time Educator: James Don Alexander, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 in Marlow, at age of 86.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 7, 2019, at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Joe Ligon, Mike Norfleet officiating. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

James was born Friday, December 30, 1932 in Marlow, to Luther Thomas and Agnes Fern (Newman) Alexander. He had lived in the Marlow area most of his life and had graduated from the Marlow High School with the Class of 1950. James also earned a Master’s degree from University of Central Oklahoma and went on to become a well-known band director who directed bands all across the state of Oklahoma for over 50 years. He Invested a love for music in the hearts of many students. He won several state titles, revived and started successful high school band programs. James married Sandy Olsen in Denver, Colorado on September 29, 1962. They were married for 56 years before his passing. James enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, watching football, and bowling. He was passionate about spending time with his family as well as spending time at the family farm. James sang in the Silvertones choir and the men’s quartet as well as leading the Church music programs. James was a member of the Chisholm Trail Municipal Band, the Army Reserves, and the First Baptist Church of Marlow where he was well loved.

Survivors include, his wife, Sandy Alexander of the home, a son, James Michael Alexander and Kim of Salt Lake, UT, 2 daughters, Deborah Elaine Rodriquez of Salt Lake, UT, Jamie Dawne Conway and husband Bud of Marlow. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by a son, Michael Douglas Alexander, a daughter, Kenna Wilde, his parents, and a brother, Leon Thomas Alexander.
