Obituary for Jerry Don Smelley

Jerry Don Smelley passed away Monday, November 4, 2019 in Oklahoma City at the age of 78.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs with burial of cremated remains to be held at a later date. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.

Jerry was born Thursday, October 2, 1941 in Chickasha, to Ben and Estelle (Ivy) Smelley. He attended school in Bradley and had lived in the Bradley and Rush Springs area most of his life. Jerry held various jobs but he enjoyed driving a truck. He retired from driving trucks after more than 20 years. He was a Rush Springs resident most of his life. Jerry loved fishing, especially if he was in a boat. He could always be found working on something, whether it was on his boat or just tinkering around the barn. Jerry was witty and funny, and loved to crack jokes with a straight face. Jerry also loved wheeling and dealing with other people. He was a very easy going and good-natured man. Jerry never met a stranger in all his years. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his life partner, Carrolyn Sue of the home, his 2 daughters, Bennie Gaye Smelley of Lawton, Sherri Beavers and husband Clint of Celina, TX, 3 grandchildren, Madelyn, Dawson, Brody, and a brother, J.W. "Dub" Smelley and wife Faye of Rush Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Pete Smelley, and a sister, Dorothy Slack.
