Obituary for Joan Selah Sparks

Marlow: Joan Selah Sparks passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in Marlow, at the age of 89.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, with Kenny Baker and Dusty Throckmorton officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 5, from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Joan was born Tuesday, October 27, 1931 in Ryan, to Hubert and Gurtie (Reed) Ryan. She attended school at the Brown Chapel until the school bus started running, then attended Ryan Public Schools. Joan married Leland Preston Sparks on February 1, 1947, in Montague County TX., and they celebrated 52 wonderful years of marriage together, before he preceded her in death in October of 1999. She had a love for all kinds of birds, especially pheasants and peacocks. Joan loved flowers, and she had over 20 different colors of irises planted throughout her yard. She took great pride in making sure her flower beds were always in perfection condition, and most days she worked on her yard and flower beds from sun up to sun down. Most importantly, Joan loved her family, and she loved being a housewife, and caring for her family. She will be deeply missed.


Joan's survivors include, 2 daughters, Naomi Throckmorton and husband Kenny, and Selah Sparks and husband Ricky, son, Roger Sparks and wife Nancy, all of Marlow, 4 grandchildren: Dusty Throckmorton and wife Marjorie of Guthrie, Brad Throckmorton and wife Nicole of Marlow, Monica Baker and husband Kenny of Marlow, and Jason Sparks and wife Amanda of Marlow, 10 great-grandchildren: Rachel Adams, Jeffery Adams, Madison Baker, Korben Baker, Ellie Throckmorton, Josie Throckmorton, Mollie Throckmorton, Emma Throckmorton, Avery Throckmorton, and Hayden Sparks, 3 great-great-grandchildren: Jett Adams, Marlee Adams, and Jaxon Adams, and brother, Joseph Ryan and wife Jeanette of Graham, TX. She is also survived by her very close friend, Jim Johnson of Duncan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Rachel Freeman, grandson, Rocky Adams, and granddaughter, Jonna Sparks.

Pallbearers will be: Dusty Throckmorton, Brad Throckmorton, Jason Sparks, Kenny Baker, Korben Baker, Jeffery Adams, and Hayden Sparks.
