John was born Monday, May 16, 1938 in Marlow, to Rodger and Martha (Petit) Patterson. John grew up in Marlow and graduated in 1958. John enjoyed playing football for Coach Picket. John found the love of his life, Lawanda Faye Whaley, and married her on Main Street of Marlow, June 7, 1958. They had 63 years together before her passing on June 7, 2021. John was a proud man and entered in the Army in 1961. While serving his country he was a member of the Army Post traveling football team. John and Lawanda returned to Marlow to raise their family. John was successful in many ventures from President of the Chamber of Commerce to President of his own oil field company, Patterson and Elliot. Work wasn't all that kept John busy. He loved raising his registered saler cattle and watching his race horses win on tracks from Remington Park to Ruidoso Downs. John's pride for his cattle and horses couldn't compare to the pride he had for his family. John and Lawanda cherished every moment they had with them. Whether you called him Dad, John, PawPaw, Big John, or J.C., he will definitely forever be in your heart and missed deeply.
