Duncan: Jonna Lynn Turner, 51, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 in Duncan.
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the unexpected and all too soon passing of Jonna Lynn (Gunn) Turner on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the age of 51. Jonna was born on September 26, 1971, to Sheila Ann (Pollard) Gunn and Lynn McClanahan in Duncan, Oklahoma, where she attended school and spent most of her life. She met Melvin Jay Branch in 1987 and married one day shy of her 16th birthday. He moved her off to Missouri where she missed her mom and siblings and begged them to come join her. After a while there the whole gang moved on to Nebraska for another little bit but came home to Duncan soon enough. She and Jay had two sons together, Ronnie and Tyler but their marriage ended in divorce in 1996. She later met and married Timothy Shane Turner and had two more children, Matthew and Madison. Jonna worked as a medical transcriptionist at Duncan Regional hospital, where she thrived from 1993 to 2004 and then continued out of her home office for years after. She would type so hard and fast that you’d swear there was smoke coming from the keyboard. She loved to have people over for what she called her “famous fried chicken and mashed potatoes”. She has always been an early riser, waking and having her coffee around 5a.m. and texting or calling her family and friends who were still in bed or barely up and getting ready for their day. I know many of us are already missing those early morning conversations. Jonna was a devout Christian and read the word of God daily. She loved her God, her children and her extended family deeply and mightily. To her siblings, she was the big sister, the advice giver, the guardian of secrets and the storyteller of childhood memories. To her nieces and nephews who all adored her, she was Aunt Jonna, who they all wanted to spend the night with. To her children, she was everything. She was Mom. And to her cousins and even friends, she was always part of the family. Jonna was extremely caring; she could be fierce, and she could be an absolute hoot. She will be missed by many, though we can take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and surrounded by light.
Preceding Jonna in death are her maternal grandparents, John and Annie Lois Pollard, her father Lynn, mother Sheila, stepfather Roy Womack and uncle, Robert Pollard.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Ronnie Branch, Tyler Branch and daughter Heda, Matthew and Madison Turner, her sister Jeanna Hurlocker and husband David, their children James Crowell and wife Haylee, their children Ayden, Makenna, Sadie and James, Jonathan Burgess and son Nathan, Jacobi Burgess and wife Ariel and sons Oliver and Austin, Jaryn Burgess, Jaci Burgess, Chelsey Hurlocker and fiancé Matthew Denham and son Easton, Conner Hurlocker, her brother Aaron Womack, his children Sidney, Chelsey and Waylon, along with cousins and friends who were like family to her.
When peace, like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrow like sea billows roll,
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
