Duncan: Joyce Kay Bowles, 79, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in Lawton.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral And Cremation Service, with Rev. David Hale officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.
Visitation for Joyce will be at the funeral home on Monday, August 29, 12:00 PM-8:30 PM, and Tuesday, August 30, 8:30 AM-8:30 PM.
Joyce was born Wednesday, January 27, 1943 in Stecker, OK, to Cecil and Esta (Staggs) Roberts. She was a graduate of Apache High School and worked at Sim's Grocery until going to work at Ft. Sill. Joyce married the love of her life, Burnell "BJ" Bowles on November 15, 1986 at The Holy City in the Wichita Mountains. She and BJ celebrated more than 25 years of marriage until he preceded her in death in 2012. In 1986 she retired from Ft. Sill Finance and Accounting where she started as a clerk typist and moved up to Deputy and Chief of Disbursing. After her retirement they moved to Marlow where BJ graduated from OMBC College and began preaching in the area. She also worked at City National Bank in Lawton as vault supervisor. In 1995 the family moved to Hobart, OK where BJ would pastor a church. She became his private secretary and church treasurer while also managing an Allstate insurance office. In 1999 they came back to Marlow when her husband retired from Pastoring, and she went to work at Lawton and worked for Edward Jones Investment Co until retiring in 2002. Joyce loved to travel across country with her husband, go fishing, and work word search puzzles.
Survivors include her step-son, BJ Bowles Jr. and wife Chasity; grandson, Jordan Bowles; sister, Willa Dean Sarsfield of Duncan; nephew, Trey Sarsfield and niece, Stacy Moss.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 2 brothers, Clyde Roberts, and Truman Joe Roberts.
