Obituary for Linda Kay Apple

Marlow: Linda Kay Apple, 82, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022 in Marlow.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Western Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Wilson officiating and Jason K. Apple assisting. All arrangements have been entrusted to Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

Robert and Sarah Lucille Thompson welcomed their daughter Linda Kay into their family on October 21, 1940 in Mena, Arkansas. After a few years living in Okemah, the Thompsons settled in Marlow, Oklahoma, where Linda graduated in 1958 from Marlow High School. After completing floriculture school in Denver, Colorado, Linda met and fell deeply in love with Kenneth Lynn Apple, and they were married on July 21, 1962 at the First Christian Church in their hometown of Marlow. The newlyweds began their new life together in Waurika, where Linda owned and operated a small flower shop in town. Linda gave birth to their only son, Jason, in June, 1965, not long before moving to Stillwater, and eventually to Wilburton, Oklahoma. Along with being an attentive wife and doting mom, Linda made floral arrangements at Nan's Flowers, was a dental assistant for Dr. Buddy Royce, and served as Wilburton Junior High School secretary for John Shero. She was an active servant at the First Baptist Church in Wilburton, was for many years a girl-scout troop leader, and a friend to all. In 1977, Linda Ken, and Jason returned home to the Marlow area, where the proud Outlaw alum became the "team mom" for any number of Central High Bronchos. Linda worked for years as an oil-and-gas land person in Stephens and Grady counties, and served on the Stephens County Rural Water Board. One constant, Linda loved her church families-first at Central Baptist Church, and most recently at Western Heights Baptist Church in Duncan. She had a true servant's heart for others, and for many years Linda served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Baptists Girls Homes. Linda left her earthly family and friends on November 26, 2022, and was joyously welcomed to Heaven by her parents, brother Warren Thompson, brother-in-law Ted Dirickson, nephew Robert Thompson, and loving mother-in-law Mabel Augusta (Gussie) Loughridge. Those with fond memories remaining to celebrate her life include her husband of 60 years; son Jason and his wife Allison of Corpus Christi, TX; Grandchildren, Hanna Miller and husband Jeremy of Augusta, GA, Hadley Apple of Washington, DC, and Zane Apple of Stillwater; great-grandsons Luke Henry and Archie Miller of Augusta, GA; sister and best friends Mura Elizabeth (Bette) Dirickson of Edmond, OK; nieces Teddi Jean Cuccio, Ashley Hall, and Eloise Kay Miller, all of Edmond, OK; nephew Dirk Thompson of Salt Lake City, UT; loving extended families, including the Buchannans, Greens, Rameys, Alfords, and Apples; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. The family is forever grateful to Kristen Seltzer and Edi and Donde Killgore for their loving care and friendship.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to either Western Heights Baptist Church or Chisholm Trail Hospice in Duncan, OK.
