Mickel was born Friday, May 30, 1969, in Henryetta, OK, to Raymond Jr. and Thelma Faye (Wilkinson) Reed. He attended Tulsa Public Schools. Mickel had lived in Duncan most of his life until moving to Oklahoma City in 2019. He married his best friend and soulmate, Judy Grace Cooley, in Las Vegas on February 22, 2022. They had just celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary at the time of his death. Mickel worked as a Truck Driver for Hobby Lobby and was set to receive a jacket for reaching one million miles driven. He was very passionate about his job and truly enjoyed being a trucker. Mickel loved to listen to music, especially old gospel songs, and Elvis, and he enjoyed watching Elvis movies. He liked going to the casino and also enjoyed watching OSU football. Mickel loved his family more than life itself and he loved spoiling his grandkids. He will be dearly missed by many.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Reed of the home; 2 sons, Andrew Reed and wife Brooke, and Hunter Shanks, both of Duncan; 2 daughters, Heather Reed of Lawton, and Lillian Shanks of Duncan; 13 grandchildren; 3 brothers, David Reed and wife Diana of Duncan, Chad Reed and wife Yvonne of San Antonio, and Ricky Chartier of Duncan; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Mickel was preceded in death by his sister, Laynette Reed, and a son Kevin Reed.
