Obituary for Shirley Ann Hitt

Rush Springs: Shirley Ann Hitt, 87, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in Marlow.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs with Terry Beard officiating. Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

Visitation will be at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs on Saturday, September 3, 8:30 AM - 8:30 PM, and Sunday, September 4, 1:00 - 8:30 PM.

Shirley was born Wednesday, September 26, 1934 in Gracemont, to Robert Clyde and Velma Marie (Bost) Hammett. She attended Gracemont School as well as Anadarko. Shirley had lived in Rush Springs for most of her life and spent her time being a house wife and raising her two boys. She married the love of her life, Harvey "Dale" Hitt, June 12, 1953 in Anadarko. Shirley and Dale celebrated more than 56 years of marriage together until his passing in 2010. She enjoyed traveling, listening to country music, and gardening in her flower beds. Shirley also enjoyed shopping and going to any garage sale she could. She valued her family and loved them more than words could ever say and she cherished every moment spent with them. Shirley will be missed by all.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Max Hitt, and James Hitt; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Bobbi Steenbergen.

In addition to her loving husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carolyn Byford.


Pallbearers will be: Justin Harper, Jeremy Beard, Greg McClure, Brandon McClure, Blake McClure, and Johnny Matlock.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Cole Beard and Bradley McClure.
