Obituary for Tawana LaRaye Balthrop

Tawana LaRaye Balthrop, 60, went to be with the Lord on May 2nd 2021, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Tawana was born September 13th 1960 in McAlester, Oklahoma to

Dorothy and Raymond Hunnicutt. She grew up in eastern Oklahoma and Houma, Louisiana. She attended high school in Velma, Oklahoma, where she met George, the love of her life, in 1976.

They married February 9th 1979 in Gainesville, Texas, and were married 42 happy years. Tawana worked in real estate and retail management throughout her life. She enjoyed interacting with the public and making new friends. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed fishing, playing with her grand babies, going on semi trips with her husband, and spending time with her chihuahua, Two-tall. She had a spirit that couldn't be broken no matter what life threw her way. If you had a bad day, you could always call her and she would tell you to take life with a grain of salt. Tawana loved animals, cooking, reading, and watching movies. Tawana was the cornerstone of her family, and an inspiration to everyone.


Survivors include her husband, George of the home; her son, William Balthrop and girlfriend Kristina Brannon of Comanche; her daughter, Shelly Eaglin and her wife Stephanie of Marlow; her grandchildren, Katrina Wooley and husband Ryan of Duncan, Christian Balthrop, Phillip Balthrop, Kourtney Balthrop, and Gabriel Balthrop, all of Comanche, and Liam Boyd of Marlow; a special daughter-in-law, Pamela Balthrop of Marlow; her brother, Mike Hunnicutt and wife Melissa of Peltzer, South Carolina, a niece, Cecilia Hunnicutt, and a nephew, Brandon Hunnicutt also of Peltzer, South Carolina; her sister, April Marley and husband Tim of Norman; her step brother, Terry Glenn Thomas of Texas; her step sister, Robin Simpson and husband Bobby of Velma; her step dad, Tom Thomas of Velma; her aunt, Mary Elizabeth Hill of Davis; her brothers-in-law, whom she loved with her whole heart, Wiley Balthrop and wife Renee of Marlow, John Balthrop and wife Julie of Duncan, Wes Balthrop of Marlow, Tom Balthrop and wife Lisa, K.P. Balthrop and wife Tammy of Bray, her best friend, Denise Ivester and husband Shane of Comanch, and many cousins and lots of friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Dorothy Hunnicutt, her grannie and papa, Ola and Arthur Bell, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mcbride and Maxine Balthrop, and her sister-in-law and best friend, Teresa Balthrop.


Visitation will be Tuesday, May 4 and Wednesday, May 5, from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM, at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow, Oklahoma.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home, on Wednesday, from 6:00-8:00 PM.
