Dakota was born in Shawnee to William Ladd and Shanna Ryker Polk on Sunday, March 3, 1991. He grew up in Duncan and graduated from Duncan High School in 2009. He furthered his education at Cameron University and graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelors degree in Nursing. He worked as a Registered Nurse at Duncan Regional Hospital from 2017 to 2022 and then took his skills to Integris Medical Center where he was currently employed.
Although Dakota was a dedicated and gifted nurse who spent countless hours, selflessly helping others that were in need, he found the time to fall in love with, and marry, the love of his life, Jade Geraghty. They became united as a family on June 5, 2021 in Duncan and made their home in Comanche. One of his greatest loves was wrestling and playing with Greyson and making sure Greyson helped him do things around the house. The two of them always enjoyed working together and Dakota always made sure that Greyson was involved in whatever project he was working on. Dakota was one of the few people, besides Greyson, that could make Veda light up and laugh. He was a great dad to them both.
Dakota was a kind, caring, fun loving and sometimes goofy man who could always bring a smile to your face and could always be counted on to make everyone’s day better and when things got difficult, he was the calm in the storm. In addition to his work, Dakota loved fishing, woodworking and, truth be told, he even enjoyed complaining about Jade’s projects and doing them anyway. He loved listening to Morgan Wallen music and if you knew Dakota, you know he loved his guns and shooting. Although he had numerous hobbies to keep him occupied, his greatest love, besides pestering his sister, was spending time with his wife and children. He was an active member of the Ray of Hope Church.
Dakota is survived by his wife Jade and his two children, Greyson Miles Polk and Veda Jean Polk all of the home. His father Ladd Polk and wife Leann of Duncan; mother Shanna Morris and husband Lonnie of Perkins; Grandfather Ron Polk of McAlister and Grandparents Leon and Carol Ryker of Eufala. Additional survivors include brothers, Skyler Ryker of Perkins, Emory Schulz of Duncan and Dakota Morris; sisters Taylar Smith and husband Larry Daniel of Empire and Savanah Hargrove. His brother-in-law Corey Ralls and wife Amy of Duncan and sister-in-law Micah Foraker and husband Josh of Comanche. He has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family that survives him as well as countless friends. Dakota was preceded in death by his grandmother, Charlotte Ann Watson
Dakota will always be remembered for his infectious smile, his caring demeanor and his dedication to those he loved. He will be greatly missed.
